“You are a king then?” –Pilate asked Jesus.”You say that I am a king,”—— replied Jesus. “I was born for this, and I have come into the world for this, that I might give evidence to the truth. Every one that is of the truth listens to Me.”– Pilate asked Him: “What is truth?” (John- 18:37-38) The answer rings throughout all eternity–in the words of Jesus –“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John8:32)
Today everyone is seeking after “Truth”. Congress promises to call hearings to “find out the truth”. The American President promises to “Get to the bottom of this” about every new alleged scandal. Political commentators and news anchors clamor for the “Truth”. We are even promised “Truth in advertising “– Wow! What a deal! With all of this growing demand for the “Truth”, there is one glaring problem; no one can agree on what is “Truth”.– There are many “varieties” of truth these days— we now have– Half-truth- whole truth- perceived truth- neglected truth- religious truth- naked truth- blind truth- and –lasting truth; but what is ABSOLUTE TRUTH? Psalm 119:160 says; “The sum of Thy word is Truth, and every one of Thy righteous ordinances is everlasting.”
The opposite side of the spectrum holds now what we call ” new varieties” of lies;– political lies- sex lies- economic lies- white lies- climate lies- and even- unavoidable lies? Therefore, how does one tell truth from a lie?
There is one way to know, given by an eye witness; “And the Word became incarnate, and encamped among us– and we gazed upon His majesty, such majesty as that of a Father’s only Son–full of beneficence and truth.” (John 1:14-Ferrar Fenton) As we can see, the Holy Bible and the Word of God are the only reliable source of truth for us today. As one man said on a recent television program; “Apart from the Word of God there is no way to know what is truth.” The more I think about this , it appears that this is the main problem determining “Truth” today— most everyone has turned away from God and his holy book, proclaiming to have discovered their own ‘Truth”. No wonder our government and our society is in chaos and unable to function.
As for me, I prefer to believe Jesus when he says; “I am the way, the Truth, the life. No man comes to the Father except by Me.” (John 14:6) Thank you Jesus!
