Why I Believe In The Rapture Part ii- (How God Restored My Joy)

Dear Reader: It is with great delight that I am able to share with you the steps that have brought me to the point where after 30-plus years of following Jesus Christ, I am finally able to say that I fully embrace the prospect of the coming Rapture of the Church. How did this happen and why? I am glad you asked that question;
When I first became a “Born Again Believer” in Jesus Christ in 1983 I had “JOY” and was overcome with the love of God and the excitement of knowing that all my sins have been forgiven. Jesus and his death on the cross had taken away all my shame and gave me hope. You would think that this truth would be enough to sustain me through my daily life, however 30 years of life and the tragedy of divorce had taken it’s toll and I had found myself at a point where the future seemed to hold nothing to look forward to. I had lost my JOY. Another thing was that a subtle message from the “enemy” began to work on my peace of mind to bring me down. It was the preaching I would hear on “the finished work of the Cross”. Without realizing it I had begun to wonder;”If jesus’ work was finished then what more could he do to help me relieve my anxiety about the future?” (Yes, I do realize that He was referring to separation of God and man and the completed work of Salvation, but other subtle thoughts began to creep in.) The good news is that I have since discovered that He is not Finished— there is more!! Much More!! (Forgive me for getting off track, please read on)
Concerning the Rapture of the Church, it seemed that every message I heard on this subject seemed to leave me empty, and often doubting if this could really be true? Don’t misunderstand me, I fully believe in Jesus as my savior and Lord, and wanted to believe in the Rapture. The question for me was; “How could two bible verses written by Paul( I Corinthians 15:51 and I Thessalonians 4:15) be enough to build such a huge promise?
God is faithful, and He began to show me that His Word (The Bible) contains more than enough supporting evidence to help me build my faith and to believe in things still in the future; Bible Prophecy.”Gods’ Word builds -Line upon Line; Precept upon Precept” I often heard in church. My friend Dr Edwin Louis Cole used to say:”God does everything according to His Pattern and His Principals.” Where were the patterns and principals for this question?
Phase One; My answer started to come as I examined the life of Moses as written in the book of Exodus. Often I was told that Moses was a “type” of the Lord Jesus Christ, and that the Bible is full of Old Testament types and shadows of the Lord Jesus and things to come. Meditating on the life of Moses I realized that his life was divided into three parts;The first 40 years as Prince of Egypt;Then he departs for 40 years in the desert; Returns for 40 years as deliverer and leader of his people to the Promised Land.The pattern starts to emerge- Jesus first had 33 years earthly ministry;Then returned to Heaven for a time to be with his Father; Jesus returns to deliver us and take His people to Heaven with Him. This was the beginning for me on my quest to embrace the Rapture.Pattern and Principal number one; “God sends His Deliverer when the time is right.”
The second phase of my quest began with the next pattern and principal; “God does not punish the righteous with the wicked”. We see this truth in the examples of Lot and his family being delivered from Sodom and Gomorrah before the cities could be judged by fire. Noah and his family were also saved by the ark (another type and shadow of Jesus Christ) before the earth could be judged by water. Rahab the Harlot and her family were saved by the Scarlet thread (another type and shadow of Jesus Christ) from the destruction of Jerico by the trumpet blast.
More and more I began to see that there is evidence for a pattern in these cases.It seems that if God does not judge the righteous with the wicked, then he would not leave His people (Church) behind to suffer the judgements of the Tribulation.
Phase three: I began to look for evidence of people being translated bodily into Heaven.This one is easy as we are well familiar with the translations of Enoch; Elijah; and the resurrection of the Lord Jesus himself. These are well known to most Bible readers and then should have no problem accepting the certain fact that God is able to bodily take people to Heaven when He wants to! One more oral tradition that is highly celebrated by the Orthodox and Catholic Christians is that Mary, the Mother of our Lord, fell asleep (died) and was translated bodily into Heaven. This “anniversary” dated is celebrated ever August 15 ,and was the beginning of by being pulled “over the top” and into the bosom of the Lord in believing that He can and will come for me to take me to Heaven when the time is right! WOW!! What a wonderful Savior– I began to believe it and accept it!
The “Penny Dropped”, and my spirit was renewed when my good friend Pastor Mel shared with me a story from the life of the famous Saint; Corrie Ten-Boom as told in her book The Hiding Place. Corrie and her sister Betsy were in a Nazi death camp in WWII for hiding Jews in there home. Seeking to encourage her terminally ill sister Corrie told Betsy;”Do you remember when we were children and we would go on trips with Mother and Papa on the train? Remember that we would wait for the train and when it was time to get on that Papa would produce the tickets for us? So it shall be– Papa will appear with the tickets for us when it is time to go!”
And so it shall be! In the end, at the last Trump, “Papa” shall produce the tickets for us! Now I can fully embrace the words of Paul: “Behold I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” ICorinth.15:51-52 “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: so shall we ever be with he Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” I Thes.4:16-18.
Yes, it’s true. These words bring me great comfort knowing the Lord is not finished with me.Thank you Lord for restoring my JOY. The best is yet to come, therefore comfort ye one another with these words! Maranatha! Come quickly Lord Jesus!
